Jordi Alba insists he is fit enough to play at Olympics

Olympic Games 2012, Spain, Jordi Alba | 2012-07-16 10:32

Barcelona defender Jordi Alba has insisted that he did not withdraw from Spain's Olympic Games squad, because he is certain he is fit enough to play.

The 23-year-old player was capped to represent La Roja at the Euro 2012, last month, and the Catalans were left hesitant in regards to his fitness and time to rest, ahead of the London Olympics.

"I'm a young guy and I'm feeling very well. I would have been the first to give up on the Olympics if I wasn't feeling fit enough," Alba said to AS.

"I would not have gone if I wasn't feeling well. I'm really looking forward to the tournament, though, and I'm keen to get going."

"I talked with the coach before the Euros and told him that I wanted to go to the Olympics. We all know the importance of the event. I'm very enthusiastic."

Spain will begin the Olympics against Japan, on July 27.
