Real Madrid continue firmly at the top of La Liga table, after beating Sporting Gijon by 3-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu, on Saturday evening.

Despite the hosts comfortable victory, Gijon were the first to reach the goal score, thanks to a De Las Cuevas penalty goal at the half-hour mark. However, the visitors advantage did not last long, as just seven minutes later Higuain scored the equalizer for the Santiago Bernabeu outfit, as the tie result lasted until halftime.

Nevertheless, it was not until 74 minutes into the second-half that Jose Mourinho’s men imposed themselves over their Saturday evening rivals, with Cristiano Ronaldo’s effort as he put the home side on the lead, once again, while Benzema increased the merengues' advantage at 82’, as 3-1 was the final result in Madrid.

With this victory, Los Blancos continue firmly at the top of the Spanish league table, and will now prepare to visit Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-finals, on Tuesday evening.
