Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has expressed his relief as his team qualified to the FA Cup finals, after beating Everton, 2-1, at Wembley on Saturday evening.

The Reds defender admitted that qualifying against Liverpool neighbour rivals, Everton, had a special meaning for his team.

“As a local player losing to Everton would have been a nightmare. I was involved in their goal to start with and if we had lost that 1-0 I don't know if I would have recovered to be honest!” He told reporters.

“But I'm relieved the lads went up the other end and showed what Liverpool are about.”

“Everybody wanted Everton to win, David Moyes said the whole country was with them. But we are a special club with special fans. Not many teams could come back. But we've got that ability and we also did it in 1986,” Carragher noted.

Finally, the Reds defender praised his team-mate, Andy Carroll, who scored the winner for the Anfield Road outfit.

“I'm pleased for Andy too. He'll be remembered for ever - a goal against Everton in a semi-final! That goal's worth £35m on its own,” he concluded.
