UEL: Atletico Madrid gain ground on Besiktas (3-1)

UEFA Europa League 2011/2012, At. Madrid, Besiktas | 2012-03-08 20:37

Atletico Madrid have scored an important 3-1 victory over Besiktas in the first-leg of the Europa League final-16 round, on Thursday evening at the Vicente Calderón.

A decisive double from Argentine player Salvio, at 24’ and 27’, gave the colchoneros a two-goal advantage before the half-hour mark.

In the 37th minute, Adrian secured the victory for the home side, scoring the 3-0 as Atletico Madrid went to halftime with a comfortable lead.

However, in the second period, former Atletico Madrid player, Simão Sabrosa, offered Besiktas an important goal in the tie, reducing the hosts advantage to 3-1 at 53’.

Therefore, the Spanish league side will travel to Istambul with a two-goal advantage over Besiktas, next week, even though Sabrosa’s goal keep the Turkish side’s progression hopes alive.
