Stoke's Sørensen makes 100th international appearance

Denmark, Sørensen | 2012-02-28 23:10

Stoke City Thomas Sørensen will reach the 100-cap milestone for Denmark this Wednesday against Russia and will emulate the record of Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel.

Sørensen came off as a substitute to replace an injured Schmeichel in a qualifying match against Israel in 1999 and has been the first option ever since 2001.

“I’m so proud. There’s nothing greater than representing your country. I never would have guessed that I would make 100 appearances,” the stopper told Uefa.com.

At 35 years of age, Sørensen will become the second goalkeeper to reach the century in Denmark and the eighth player, as he is going to his fifth major tournament heading to Euro 2012.
