Joe Hart admits it ''would be amazing'' to captain England

Joe Hart has downplayed his chances to become the England's captain, saying there are other big contenders for the armband, but the goalkeeper also admitted that it would be a great honour to reach that status.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper said he is not bothered with Stuart Pearce's decision to reveal the Three Lions captain's name, for Wednesday evening's friendly match against the Netherlands, only on Wednesday morning.

"It’s by-the-by. He knows and whether he tells us today or tomorrow it makes no difference," Hart told reporters.

"I think I speak for everyone who is English and likes football when I say to captain your country would be amazing. It would be great honour. I think its a little way off for myself at the moment. There are a lot of big names, with a lot more caps than me."

"I think it is definitely possible. If you look at someone who captains their team and their country then you can look no further than Iker Casillas. He’s done a great deal and achieved everything," he added.

"Arm-band or not, I just want to be in that team tomorrow."

New strikers generation

Then, the Manchester City goalkeeper voiced his opinion on the new generation of strikers at the England team.

"It excites me. It’s a great opportunity for all three of them."

"Danny Sturridge has been doing great for Chelsea and [Danny] Welbeck has been banging in the goals, annoying me a bit really. And Frazier [Campbell] has come back from injury and been in good form."
